
The Noble Cafe at 100 Grand is the latest cafe on the downtown scene. They are attempting to be carbon neutral. They will offer the cafe as a venue to raise funds for Oakland non-profits. Serves blue bottle coffee and delicious pies.
As a young girl helping my mother in her restaurant, I learned first-hand how important neighborhood businesses are to the fabric of our community–and how it takes creativity and perseverance to succeed.
Oakland is a leader in progressive and smart growth policies. We partner with local and
regional businesses to create jobs and a sustainable city that promotes a green economy and
healthy environment that benefits all.
In my recent State of the City Address, I noted that Oakland was on the Rise.
Despite the worst national recession in decades and a constant stream of state and federal cuts, Oakland’s economy is rising faster than the state and federal economies.
- Our economy has risen with an increase of 5,000 jobs in the past year in the retail, restaurant, construction and high tech sectors.
- We have decreased our unemployment by 2% (stats)
- Sales tax revenue rose 12.4% last year—ahead of the state average increase of 8.7%
