We’re focused on making a difference in the 100 Blocks where 90% of the shootings and homicides occur. In late February and early March we held three job fairs in West an East Oakland and recruited 500 youth for the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, includin
g positions with Oakland Parks and Recreation this summer. We hope to provide many young people their first job opportunities–our goal is to match 500 youth from these 100 Blocks with jobs this summer.
If you are a local business, consider hiring an Oakland youth through the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program. This year we hope to provide jobs for 1000 Oakland youth. Donations are always welcome–$1000 will cover the cost of hiring one youth in the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program. For details, contact John Bailey at jbailey@oaklandnet.com
We also are launching the Summer Stars Program to provide 100 youth from the 100 Blocks a one-week outdoor camping experience this summer. Each campership costs $1000. If you are interested in supporting this program, please contact officeofthemayor@oaklandnet.com for details. Contributions are tax deductible.
I firmly believe that our city is strongest when neighbors work together and in collaboration

Communication is critical to that effort, and I have pledged to reach out to the community
with transparent and timely communication using as many outlets as possible. Please sign up
