Organized for Action

We’re focused on making a difference in the 100 Blocks where 90% of the shootings and homicides occur.

I’m joining representatives for OCO on February 20 to canvass in East Oakland, promoting one of the  three upcoming job recruitment fairs in East and West Oakland. During the summer, the City hires young people for temporary work in the Parks & Recreation Department, Public Works and elsewhere in the City.

Wednesday, February 29, West Oakland
McClymonds High School, 2607 Myrtle Street
1-4 pm
(Youth must be between 16 and 18 years old)

Thursday, March 1, East Oakland
Lockwood Gardens, 1327 65th Avenue
3-6 pm
(Ages 16 and up)

Saturday, March 3, East Oakland
Willie Wilkins Park, 98th Ave, between B & C Streets)
10 am – 1 pm
(Ages 16 and up)

By holding summer job recruitment fairs in the 100 Blocks, we hope to provide many young people their first job opportunities.

If you are a local business, consider hiring an Oakland youth through the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program.  This year we hope to provide jobs for 1000 Oakland youth. Donations are always welcome–$1000 will cover the cost of hiring one youth in the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program.  For details, contact John Bailey at jbailey@oaklandnet.com

I firmly believe that our city is strongest when neighbors work together and in collaboration
with our City, schools, county and other community agencies.

Communication is critical to that effort, and I have pledged to reach out to the community
with transparent and timely communication using as many outlets as possible. Please sign up
for one or all of these outlets:
